As an online psychic reader I have the privilege of working with individuals from across the globe.
Weekly, I “read” for people from diverse geographic backgrounds that include: Philadelphia, PA., Chicago, IL, Freedom, WI, Eugene, OR, Milwaukee, WI, Minneapolis, MN, Pittsburgh, KS, Breckenridge, CO and Amsterdam… You get the drift; people from around the world are seeking understanding at a spiritual level.
The one thing that all the people who call me for a reading have in common is, they are all searching for meaning in the place where they live. Although the initial questions may vary, the essence of the issue many times is related to place.
How can I be comfortable where I am at?
What do I have to change in my environment to feel at peace?
Spirituality of place recognizes the symbiosis that should exist between people and the places in which they dwell. The Placeways Institute in St. Paul, explains spirituality of place as a recognition that human beings aren’t the only bodies en souled. “There is a sense in which the places you dwell in are alive and have a kind of soul.”
Oftentimes in a reading that begins with a question like, “Will Bobbi Joe and I get married?” we end up looking at how one’s soul is fed and nourished by the environment they reside in. Rarely is a reading complete without the recognition that creating sacred space is an ageless exercise and basic to conscious awareness. Although spiritual practices are many times shaped by what the environment allows, individuals are drawn to places spiritually if not consciously by the history of the place.
Many times, the first step in developing a new spiritual practice is creating the space to be spiritually directed. In my book Four Basic Steps to Intuitive Understanding I suggest that you “create a physical space to work in. It can be as simple or complex as you desire it to be. Bring into the space the items that you find calming and supportive, items that speak to your soul. Music, candles, sacred objects, rocks, stones, twigs from your natural environment…whatever works for you.
“You are literally setting the stage- telling the universe that you are serious about the desire to better understand and work with your psychic skills. This is where you will be seeking and receiving support and confirmation.
“This setting-up project should not take too long. Do not think too much about what this space is or looks like. Let it flow from your imagination using the space and things that are currently in your life and feed your soul. The only requirement is that whoever you share your home with must recognize that it is personal and private. This space should be an acknowledgement of what you “know,” so let this part of the process be a gathering together of what you currently have in your possession that enhances your being. Know that as time goes on, it will change but for now, use what you have. This should take you no more than a day or two to get organized. Find a spot, set it up and go to work.”
It continues to delight me that intrinsic to the nature of all my clients is a sense of wonder and awe for the place they choose to call home. Whether we live in Stowe, VT, Brownsville, TX or Taos, NM we all continue to look for the sacred nature of the environment we call home.
